Want to stay longer at the ashram?
Email [email protected] to arrange additional nights at the ashram (before or after our program). The investment will be $50 USD per night (includes accommodations, 3 meals per day, and taxi ride to/from the airport on different dates than the rest of the group).
Food & meals in India
You will be provided three nutritious vegetarian meals each day with gluten free options, starting March 16th with dinner, until March 23rd breakfast. Please let us know ASAP if you have specific dietary requirements by email [email protected]
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND outside of the ashram:
Only eat cooked food & avoid salads and juices
The safest way to eat in India is to never eat from vendors on the street and only visit classy restaurants that are busy and look “clean” and only enjoy COOKED FOODS.
There are kiosks and even an organic food store right next to the ashram where you can purchase snacks. Happy Jack Yoga will not provide snacks. If you have a fave snack that you really love at home, please consider bringing it.

Can you eat street food in India?
Can I brush my teeth with tap water?
How about snacks?
Where can I get Indian rupees?
I can't live without coffee and/or tea. Will I survive?
Wifi and SIM-cards
There is no Wi-fi at the ashram. It's best to get a SIM card at the Delhi airport.
Right after you've picked up your luggage and exited you'll see Airtel's booth.
What you'll need is
- Your passport
- 800 INR
- They take your photo right there
Your sim card will be active the next day at 2pm.
Otherwise you can probably make an extra agreement with your phone company at home prior to leaving. Ask for their fares per day while traveling, and if their offer is acceptable the advantage of staying with your cell phone provider is that your number won't change. We have don both options in the past, and both worked fine.

Packing List
In March It’s warm outside during the day but at night I wear my wool and cashmere layers. In the spring it can be a little windy outside, and marble floors are cold inside. Bring both warm weather and cold weather clothes. You will find lots of dresses, shirts, pants and scarves, all of which are inexpensive. If you like to wear white (not a requirement!), you can purchase cotton clothes in the stores close to the ashram.
Documents to bring:
- Passport
- Printed Vaccine proof (optional)
- Printed Copies of any prescription drugs
- Printed India e-tourist visa
Laundry service?
There is laundry service at the ashram, and if you bring your things after breakfast chances are the laundry is ready the same afternoon!! The charge is 20 rupees (undies) for small things and 30 for bigger things (pants, hoodies).

What to wear in India?
It is recommended you wear modest clothing. Rishikesh is a sacred city where both Indian and foreign pilgrims come to worship, pray and experience the magic of Mother Ganga, the Ganges river.
Avoid flaunting bare skin as much as possible, as this is not respectful and can attract unnecessary attention. This means: wear a t-shirt to cover your shoulders and upper arms. Avoid tight yoga pants or cover with a short dress or a longer tee shirt over your bum and upper thighs.
When we practice yoga, and each time we are in our yoga room, you are of course welcome to wear Western yoga wear.
What's the temperature like in Rishikesh in March?
I DO NOT OWN WHITE CLOTHES!!! Is this a problem?
Is an ashram a hotel?
Should I bring my own toiletries?
What else..?
What NOT to bring?
Checking in at the Ashram:
Upon check-in to the ashram, all travellers must complete a form and get their passport photocopied. To save time, we encourage yogis to complete the form in advance and bring a photocopy of their passports. This will help stream line the check-in process.
